Amanda Holden 'given warning' by BBC bosses after breaking show rules

Amanda Holden was “spoken to” by the BBC after breaking a rule with her recent Instagram post.

The presenter, 54, is known for fixing up properties with her friend Alan Carr on their hit BBC show, Amanda & Alan’s Spanish Job - a spin-off from their show Amanda and Alan’s Italian Job.

She often wears a navy personalised boiler suit in the episodes, with the words “Handy Mandy” embroidered on the back.

Holden came under fire after wearing the garment while appearing in a since-deleted promotional video on Instagram for the shopping channel, QVC.

She posted a 30-second clip on February 3 in which she teased her appearance on QVC to promote her interior design range, BundleBerry.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge was told by the BBC to remove the post on Friday as it breaches their rules banning presenters from featuring in ads connected to their TV roles, MailOnline reported.

The Beeb’s rules state: “Actors and artists who perform in BBC output should not appear in promotional work, including advertisements, in a way which mimics or replicates their on-air roles for the BBC.”

A BBC spokesman told The Standard: “Amanda has removed her post and has been reminded of her responsibilities, as a BBC presenter, when using social media.”

In Holden’s video, she was seen wearing the boiler suit while measuring walls and hanging mirrors while The A Team’s theme tune played in the background.

The Heart FM star - who launched her Bundleberry range in 2017 - had labelled the post as an advertisement.

Her co-star, comedian Carr, 48, commented on it at the time: “I recognise that boiler suit.”

DIY SOS host Nick Knowles faced a similar run-in with the BBC in May 2021.

The presenter, 62, was reportedly at risk of losing his job as the series host after doing a Shreddies advert in which he played a builder.

Knowles wore a hard hat and a tool belt - just like his look on the BBC renovation series - and gave a family DIY advice about how to start their day in the cereal commercial.

It was reported that he may have breached the BBC’s commercial guidelines with the advertising campaign.
