Amanda Holden gets emotional as Britain's Got Talent contestant dances to her song

Amanda Holden says her highlight of the new Britain’s Got Talent series is being involved in one of the auditions.

Viewers will see her “get emotional” when a girl auditionee uses a track from her album Songs From My Heart she released in October 2020.

Amanda said: “A little girl came out and danced to my version of Over The Rainbow! I was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s my song!’ The proudest thing was saying to Simon, “That’s my version.”

And then he made some cheeky joke about it. I couldn’t wait to text my husband to say, ‘Oh my God, this little girl just danced to my track!’ as he masterminded the whole album.

"It was a real emotional moment and it felt like a dream.”

The new series of BGT has been criticised by some viewers for having some professional performers on the series. This weekend saw professional impressionist Suzi Wild and on the opening show singer Loren Allred had a global hit from the film The Greatest Showman.

But it is not against the rules and asked about the influx of pros, Amanda, 51, said: “Well, there is a real mix. There are some professionals who would never have dared to come on the show before, but now find themselves in the same position as everybody else.

“The whole industry has been on its knees and I think they’ve seen us as a gateway to get back on stage for real, and actually, they had a great experience, a positive experience and have shown us stuff we’ve never seen before.

“But at the same time we’ve got the mums, dads, grandparents and kids who are just giving it a go with something they might have taught themselves during lockdown.

"So I think we’ve got a real mix of people who’ve performed for a living and people who don’t.

"I love that mixture backstage because there’s the statesmen, and the people who are learning, and the people who want to learn. It’s been a big, big crowd of people from all different walks of life and different genres of entertainment.

"I think that’s what’s made it really buzzy this year, there’s been no barriers at all.”

Amanda says despite it being the tenth year of the same judging panel on BGT, the coronavirus and filming restrictions meant they have not had a proper celebration yet.

She said: “We haven’t really celebrated properly yet. That’s probably something we should do when it’s all done and dusted this year. We should have dinner together and celebrate that success, because it’s a pretty incredible achievement, especially in today’s TV climate.”

  • Britain’s Got Talent continues on Saturday night at 8pm and the series so far can be watched on ITV Hub.
