Amanda Bynes to 'prioritise my well-being' after nine-year conservatorship ends

Amanda Bynes is ready to put herself first after a judge ended her nine-year conservatorship on Tuesday.

The former Nickelodeon star, 35, had been under the legal arrangement for almost a decade but is now able to take control of her own personal and financial decisions.

And in a statement to People via her lawyer David A. Esquibias, the actress said: "In the last several years, I have been working hard to improve my health so that I can live and work independently, and I will continue to prioritise my well-being in this next chapter.

"I am excited about my upcoming endeavours — including my fragrance line — and look forward to sharing more when I can."

She went on to thank everyone who has stood by her over the years as she continued to battle for her freedom in a similar way to Britney Spears, who had her own conservatorship overturned in November.

The statement continued: "Following today’s decision by the judge to terminate my conservatorship, I would like to thank my fans for their love and well wishes during this time.

"I would also like to thank my lawyer and my parents for their support over the last nine years."

A judge ruled on Tuesday that her legal arrangement as "no longer required".

Amanda was under the control of her mother Lynn Bynes who served as her conservator until this moment. Her dad Rick Bynes was another interested party in the case and both had been supportive in her attempts to end the arrangement.

In February, Lynn's attorney told Variety : "Lynn is extremely happy and thrilled and proud of Amanda and ready to terminate this conservatorship based on the hard work Amanda has done."

She insisted at the time that she believed her daughter's condition had improved enough to give her back control of her own life.

Amanda's lawyer said the star has made "significant progress" in recent years in her battle with sobriety and bipolar disorder.

The She's The Man actress has been sober for several years now and is doing a lot better. She has also completed a degree at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising and is also now engaged to beau Paul Michael.

In 2018, she opened up about her past use of drugs to Paper Magazine but insisted "those days of experimenting are long over".
