Amadou Onana explains Frank Lampard plan for his role and makes Everton transfer point

Amadou Onana has revealed he has been taking part in extra shooting practice with Frank Lampard as he aims to become more 'decisive' for Everton.

The Blues completed the signing of Onana from Lille on a five-year deal back in August. West Ham United had agreed a £33.5m deal for the Belgian international but Everton nipped in ahead of their Premier League rivals.

However, one of the key parts of the midfielder’s game that can still develop is finishing, with him missing glorious chances in the recent games against Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur. But to his credit, Onana is clearly doing all he can to improve his goalscoring output.

"Given that the game goes faster than in the French championship, I think that I have improved my scanning and the speed of execution with the ball,” he told RTBF.

"I work on finishing a lot with the coach after training. It's one of the missing pieces in my game, we all find the two that I can be more decisive. I also work physically because the sequence of matches is not always obvious and therefore recovery is very important.”

Before he added on his relationship with Lampard, saying: "The trainer makes me evolve in eight with a style of box to box. He estimates that with my qualities, I am capable of carrying out the defensive and offensive tasks.

“He tries to instill that in me since he did it during his career and therefore there is no better thing than to have him as a coach. I watched the Premier League a lot when I was little, Lampard is a legend of English football."

The 21-year-old has wasted no time in becoming a mainstay in Lamaprd's side in the early stages of the campaign. Alongside Alex Iwobi and Idrissa Gueye, the trio have been a formidable force in the middle of the pitch, and Onana believes he has adapted well to life in the Premier League.

He said: "I think that I have adapted well to the Premier League, I have made my mark match after match, gaining confidence and maturity.

“It's a different league with a different intensity to what I've been used to. I have very high expectations of myself, I want to play every game, be in every competition, play as much as possible.

“I didn't have any guarantees when I arrived, only superstars have playing time guarantees. I had to work, show what I was worth in training and it paid off.”
