Amad Diallo 'set' for big Manchester United chance as post-Rangers form at Sunderland catches eye

Amad Diallo is set to land his chance to stake his claim at Manchester United.

The former Rangers loanee has had a stunning 12 month turnaround as he continues to impress under former Celtic boss Tony Mowbray at Sunderland. The 20-year-old - who was signed on six-month deal by Giovanni van Bronckhorst last January - has netted 12 goals and provided four assists in all competitions this season as the Black Cats go down to the final game of the season in the hunt to finish in the top six and in the play-off spots.

The attacker was handed a standing ovation from the home support in the final home game of the regular season against Watford. They come up against Preston knowing they must win with Diallo certain to be a major part of any hopes alongside Patrick Roberts.

The Daily Mirror report that Erik ten Hag wants him back at Old Trafford in the summer to test him in pre-season friendlies before a decision is made with Mowbray backing up that theory.

He said: “Man United are happy but I think the next step is for them to take him on pre-season to America. I think when the new manager came in it was right on the cusp of whether they were going to keep him or not.

“He liked some of the stuff but he maybe wasn’t sure about other things. I’m sure he’s been watching Amad’s clips from games, just as I watch all of our players who are out on loan. They know how successful the loan has been but United and Ten Hag now have to decide.”

The former Celtic boss believes he would be better served staying in the north to continue his stunning development. He added: “He is playing every week, he scores, the fans love him.

“He has a Man U salary while playing for Sunderland. But he couldn’t come to Sunderland on a Man United salary.”

United shelled out a huge fee to land him from Atalanta in January 2021.
