Amad Diallo and Patrick Roberts 'magic' together as Sunderland return for ex-Rangers man 'unlikely'

Tony Mowbray has claimed Amad Diallo will go to a 'top Spanish team' for big money if his future is not at Manchester United.

The former Rangers loanee has had a stunning season at Sunderland and once again stepped up to the plate to keep their play-off hopes alive and kicking with a stunning winner in a comeback win over Birmingham City. The Black Cats are right in the hunt for the top six with four games to play with the winger a key reason behind that.

Former Celtic boss Mowbray believes a return to the Stadium of Light next season is unlikely but says they stand a better chance should they return to England's top flight. Should that scenario not evolve he reckons a big move to La Liga could be on the cards. Diallo's form has earned a Player of the Year shout as his club boss detailed the reason why he plays Patrick Roberts around him in what he describes as 'magic' watching the duo in action.

He explained: "I have a good feeling for Amad that if he’s not back at United he will go for big, big money to a top Spanish team. He loves football and wants to play so what do you do if you are at Manchester United?

"Are you happy just to be a Manchester United player and play six sub appearances and two starts over a season of 60 games for them? Or do you want to go out and play?

"So are they going to sell him? If they do they will want to recoup their money which was reputedly 40 euros or whatever it was.

"The reality is he won’t be coming here, in my mind, unless they think he is going to be one hell of a player and needs to play, or he enjoys Sunderland and should keep going to play for them. That would be the ideal scenario for us. Pretty unlikely I would suggest, but you never know because if they see him as genuinely someone who can play in their first team down the line they could keep him on board.

"I would suggest they would try him at another level and he’d go [on loan] to the Premier League, or go back to Italy or Serie A or Spain. But let’s hope he is playing at Sunderland and banging in goals. There is a better chance if we are in the Premier League, he is playing against Premier League teams."

He continued: "How good is he? It comes down to that grown mindset. He needs to be constantly challenged.

"My fear would be at this club he feels as if he is the top player, a top player, and how quickly can everyone else get to the level.

"That is why I play Patrick Roberts around him. He is amazing with the ball and doesn’t give it away. He feels he can do what he wants with the ball but if he lends it to him he might not get it back. It is magic watching them both."
