Everton midfielder Tom Davies has spoken about his desire to leave the world in a better place through his work in sustainability.
The 23-year-old has endured a frustrating season for the Blues , making only seven appearances before suffering a knee injury in November. Further tests revealed he had sustained a hamstring injury that required surgery , with Davies now completing his recovery at Finch Farm.
However, away from the pitch, Davies has looked to use his spell on the side-lines in a positive way, joining up with ChopValue; a company that recycles chopsticks from restaurants, which would ordinarily go to landfill sites, into furniture. Speaking to BBC Sport, Davies outlined the reasons why environmental causes were important to him.

“There’s obviously a lot of progress [still to go] in the Premier League,” Davies told MOTDx. “At Everton, at the training ground, they’ve planted trees, they recycle rainwater; we’re trying to go plastic free. We have a bit of a nature reserve at the training ground, too. We have a lake, we have swans there sometimes, we have different birds. Our waste food goes into compost.
“I think just general things, it takes a bit of time to sit down and think, ‘Where can we improve?’ Going forward, I think there’s more meetings I need to be a part of. I’m always trying to learn, I’m always trying to understand things.
“I really do love nature. I love the world that we live in so I want to protect it. We’re only here for a short time, so I don’t want to leave the world a worse place than when I came into it.”
This is not the first time that Davies has shown his community spirit. In 2020, the Everton midfielder joined the Sunday Supper Project in Liverpool and was pictured helping provide essentials to the homeless community on New Year’s Eve, alongside fellow volunteers.
