Leicester City defender Wout Faes has revealed what Brendan Rodgers said to him after his two own goals against Liverpool.
The Reds claimed a 2-1 win over Leicester in the Premier League at the end of December. Both of Liverpool’s goals came from Faes accidentally putting the ball into his own net.
Liverpool had conceded the first goal of the game at Anfield, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall on target for the visitors. But Liverpool responded, with the first of Faes’ own goals coming from a deflection from a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross.

The second was a result of a Darwin Nunez striker which hit the post, before ricocheting off Faes and into the net. Liverpool managed to hold on and secure a precious three points, with a nervy finish at Anfield.
Faes has now spoken at length about that match and the aftermath of what happened at Anfield. The Leicester defender has revealed what former Reds boss Rodgers said to him following his two own goals.
“You know when you play a match like that, it’s always complicated the following days,” Faes told French news outlet Le Soir.
“And that makes sense. It is true that there was a lot of bad luck. But having reviewed the phases afterwards, I know that I could have done better on the first goal.
“It’s the kind of thing that happens once in a lifetime. Unfortunately for me, it happened twice in the same game. But I must say that, despite this difficult moment, I immediately felt the support of the coach. He directly told me not to worry.
“Besides, he was very satisfied that I stayed in my match.
“In the second half, I played as if nothing had happened. For him, few players would have been able to do so well afterwards, especially in such an atmosphere with the Liverpool supporters.”
