Bleacher Report’s Ryan Fowler surprisingly selected Alvin Kamara as the New Orleans Saints’ most important contract extension candidate for this offseason. The selection was particularly notable because the sentiment flies in the face of the popular opinion. Kamara has been labeled a trade piece, and not a lucrative one at that, while Kendre Miller has been projected to take a step up.
For Fowler to say a Kamara extension is important is a complete 180 from those thoughts. He’s a running back nearing his 30th birthday. A younger player at a premier position like cornerback Paulson Adebo felt like a name you’re more likely to see on his list. Though, the Saints’ packed cornerback room may have contributed to his exclusion.
It’s equally as timely as it is surprising. Kamara is currently looking for a new contract situation. As Fowler mentioned, there’s no guaranteed money after this season. This is reportedly what is driving Kamara’s urgency around his contract. Kamara wants a new deal, and there’s value in getting something done, at least from the outside looking in. Let’s see if the Saints agree.
