Alvaro Fernandez issues verdict on Manchester United future and makes Erik ten Hag admission

Alvaro Fernandez admits it is a "dream" to play regularly for Manchester United but that he does not know where he will be playing his football next season.

The 20-year-old Spaniard has spent the season out on loan at Preston North End. He became a regular on the left flank for Ryan Lowe's side as the Deepdale outfit ended the season in 12th.

Fernandez played 42 times for Preston in all competitions, notching six assists in the process. The season spent at Deepdale was the defender's first campaign away from Old Trafford since he joined United from Real Madrid in 2020.

Fernandez, whose deal at United is due to expire next summer, is unclear about what the 2023/24 season will entail. He is yet to learn if he will stay at United to fight it out for a place in the first team or head back out on loan to get more experience and minutes under his belt.

The Spain under-19 international admits it would be a "dream" to regularly turn out for United. However, he knows that is down to Ten Hag.

Fernandez told Preston's club website: “Hopefully, that is my dream now [to play regularly for United]. For the next season I have to come back in pre-season and we’re going to see.

“Erik ten Hag has to choose if they want me there or if they don’t want me. If they let me go on loan again, I don’t know yet.

"I don’t know what’s going to be my future. Hopefully I can know where is going to be my future, but I don’t know yet.”
