South Africa legend Tendai 'The Beast' Mtawarira has claimed Wales icon Alun Wyn Jones should retire.
The suggestion came after Wales were put to the sword by New Zealand in Cardiff, losing 23-55 to the Kiwis on Saturday afternoon.
World Cup-winner Mtawarira shared his thoughts on Twitter in the immediate aftermath of a game which saw Jones introduced as a half-time replacement. While Jones did nothing hugely wrong, he struggled to make any significant impact and was part of a disjointed Welsh defence that allowed Aaron Smith to score with ease.
Mtawarira said: "Alun Wyn Jones about time to retire...a good dancer knows when to leave the dance floor...I am sure there is a young Welsh lock waiting for his turn in that jersey."
Mtawarira himself retired in incredible fashion, bowing out with a World Cup medal around his neck after the Springboks defeated England in the final.
By the time France 2023 rolls around, Jones will have just turned 38. It would be a remarkable achievement if he featured at the tournament, but that remains the goal.
A Twitter user incorrectly suggested in response to the post that Jones would be retiring after the autumn series. Mtawarira replied "Too late."
Jones faced Mtawarira a number of times throughout his career.
