Alun Wyn Jones has made a shock return to the Wales camp ahead of next week’s clash with Six Nations leaders France.
The world’s most capped player has undergone two operations since damaging his shoulder against New Zealand in October.
He was confidently expected to miss the entire championship, despite coach Wayne Pivac warning in January: “Never say never, it’s Alun Wyn Jones”.
That was in reference to last summer when Wales’ talismanic lock crocked his shoulder in the British and Irish Lions opening match, was ruled out of the South Africa tour, yet returned to captain the side in all three Tests.
The Welsh Rugby Union stopped short of saying he would return to the team in the championship but today confirmed that the 36-year old had rejoined the squad.
“Alun Wyn Jones will attend camp this week to continue his rehabilitation,” said a spokesperson.
