Alton Towers visitors 'scream' as rollercoaster stops mid-air after person falls ill

An Alton Towers customer has described the moment people 'screamed' in terror as a rollercoaster stopped mid-tracks after a person fell ill.

The guest became unwell during the incident on the Galactica roller coaster in the Staffordshire theme park on Thursday October 27. A woman from Manchester who witnessed the incident said the ride was stopped as medics rushed to help, Manchester Evening News reports.

She described hearing onlookers around the ride 'screaming'. She said: "The people witnessing around the ride were getting distressed by the screaming, and some kids were even crying because it was scary." A spokesperson for Alton Towers confirmed that the incident was not related to the safety of the ride.

The person who fell ill 'required assistance' and was helped by medics, the spokesperson added. The theme park has spoken with their family 'to wish them a speedy recovery'.

In a statement, the Alton Towers spokesperson said: "Medical assistance arrived on site to help with a guest who fell ill during their visit and required assistance. The safety and wellbeing of our guests is always our top priority and we have spoken with the family to wish the guest a speedy recovery.

"This was in no way related to the safety of our rides and attractions."

Back in 2020 The Mirror reported on an Alton Parks closure as guests complained of irritation to their eyes and throats after visiting a water park in Staffordshire.
