Alton Towers gives sneak peek at new Nemesis roller coaster as track arrives at theme park

Thrill seekers have been given a sneak peek at the new Nemesis coming to Alton Towers.

The legendary attraction - which takes riders on a heart-pounding journey with a g-force of 3.5 and top speed of 50mph - welcomed fans on a final ride last November before temporarily ceasing operations to undergo an exciting revamp.

Now the eagerly-anticipated return has taken a step closer with the arrival of the first new pieces of track. The entire 250-tonne, 716-metre-long track is being replaced as part of the transformation, before the ride reopens in 2024.

Fans of the ride can also now take their place on a specially constructed viewing platform, overlooking the site, to watch the transformation take place.

Up to 30 people at a time can get a glimpse of what’s to come, and see the new colour of the track. Previously white - it is now black, with what appears to be red veins snaking along its length.

Bianca Sammut, divisional director at Alton Towers Resort, said: “As Europe’s first-ever inverted rollercoaster, Nemesis rightly holds legendary status among thrill seekers.

“At Alton Towers Resort we’re committed to providing visitors with stand-out attractions that are unmatched by anyone else.

“Reaching this latest milestone in the transformation of Nemesis is a proud moment for everyone involved in the project. And for all thrill seekers out there it means the day we can take the wraps off our revamp is edging ever closer."

Just last weekend we shared exclusive footage from inside the resort's newest ride - The Curse at Alton Manor, which reopened last month and replaced the former Duel ride.

With 3D projections and cutting-edge audio technology, it charts the story of Emily Alton, who it's believed still haunts the spooky house.
