Alton Towers emergency as visitor left 'dangling from fence' while attempting to escape queue

A theme park guest ended up 'dangling' from a fence after they appeared to be trying to escape the queue for a ride. The Alton Towers visitor was reported to been attempting to climb a fence when the incident happened.

The person, who Stoke on Trent Live said looked to be in their late teens, had been queuing for the Rita rollercoaster. According to reports, the theme park visitor's foot got stuck on the top of a fence they were attempting to climb as they were coming down the other side. They ended up suspended by their leg in plain view of dozens of onlookers.

Alton Towers sits in 500 acres in the nearby Staffordshire countryside. Because of the park's rural nature, an air ambulance was dispatched to the scene, followed by a land ambulance which eventually took the visitor away.

A spokesperson for Alton Towers Resort said: “Medical assistance arrived on site to help with a guest whose actions in a queue line led to their foot being caught between two fence posts.

"An air ambulance was sent due to the rural nature of the Resort, which is common practice, but was not required. The guest left the Resort via land ambulance for further assessment and did not sustain any serious injuries. This was unrelated to any of our rides and attractions.”

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed teams had gone to the park at 3pm yesterday, including a land ambulance, air ambulance, paramedic and community first responder.

The spokesperson added: "Following treatment for injuries not believed to be serious, he was taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital by land ambulance."
