A resident in Altadena, California, has taken a proactive approach to support his community during the ongoing battle against wildfires in Los Angeles County. Jose Velazquez established a donation site outside his family home in Altadena, where his father and mother-in-law have resided since 1985. Despite the unfortunate loss of their garage, Velazquez's family home remains standing, along with two other homes in the area.
Velazquez expressed his commitment to assisting those affected by the wildfires, stating, 'We’re here if you have been displaced, not only if you lost your home. As long as the community needs it, we’ll be here.' Initially intended for weekend donations, the site quickly gained momentum as more community members contributed essential items such as medicine and baby supplies.
Over the past four days, hundreds of individuals have benefited from the donations provided at the site. Velazquez emphasized his motivation for taking action, stating, 'I couldn’t just sit back and not do anything besides take action and set up this donation spot for anybody in need.'
