Alpine's Next Car Will Be a Crossover. But It Can Still Drift

We’re less than a month away from Alpine revealing the A390, the brand's new electric crossover. The automaker is teasing the model again, capturing the car during some final tests at Michelin’s Ladoux Technology Center wet track.

Alpine jointly developed the A390’s tires with Michelin. The crossover will wear 20-inch Pilot Sport EV or 21-inch Pilot Sport 4S tires when it goes on sale. Alpine also continued to dial in the crossover’s active torque vectoring and its three electric motors. It’ll have five drive modes, including a new Track Mode that adjusts the electronic stability control for more spirited driving.

Like other EVs, the A390 will feature unique sound signatures, featuring two tracks. Alpine says it derived one from the A110’s engine noise, but without replicating the exact sound of a combustion engine. The other, geared toward daily use, has less bass. Thankfully, owners can adjust the sound levels or completely turn it off.

The A390 will be similar in size to the Ford Escape when it arrives, measuring 181.69 inches long, 60.31 inches tall, and 74.21 inches wide. It’ll have three electric motors, but we don’t know how much power they’ll make.

The A390 will ride on Renault’s AmpR Medium platform that underpins the Nissan Aryia. However, Nissan only offers its EV with two electric motors that make a combined 429 horsepower in the Nismo version. That suggests the Alpine could have over 600 hp.

We will know for sure next month when Alpine reveals the A390 on May 27 in France.
