Not only were Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly stoked to compete in the the U.S. Grand Prix on Sunday in Austin, the two French drivers arrived to Circuit of Americas donning the jerseys of two of the most popular NFL players in Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
Ocon wore the home version of Kelce’s jersey as he entered the venue on Sunday. The Alpine driver, who entered Sunday’s race at No. 8, did not finish the race because Ocon’s front left tire crashed into the side of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri during the opening lap of the event. A few laps later, Ocon’s team told him to withdraw from the race.
Piastri, after finding out the severity in damage to his car, was forced to retire from the race in lap 10. Gasly, who is also an Alpine driver, wore the road version of Mahomes’s jersey as he entered the venue with all smiles. He finished Sunday’s 56-lap race at No. 8 on the grid after starting the race at No. 7, logging a time of 47.996.
Max Verstappen overcame a fierce challenge from Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton to win the U.S. Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver, who started at No. 6, pulled away from Norris in the second of the half of the race at lap 28 to register his 15th win of the season.
Earlier this week, Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes became Formula 1 team owners when they bought into Alpine.
