Alphonso Davies slams Harry Maguire in extraordinary FIFA 22 rant with captaincy claim

Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies has launched a scathing criticism of Harry Maguire after drawing him in a FIFA 22 pack.

The Canada international was speaking on his Twitch channel when he insisted that Cristiano Ronaldo should be the Manchester United captain over the defender. It is just the latest low point in a season to forget for the 28-year-old.

Maguire has come under fire nearly all year after a series of high-profile mistakes and below-par performances. United have had a disastrous campaign so far, crashing out of all competitions while struggling to fight for a spot in the top four.

The Red Devils currently sit seventh in the Premier League despite the marquee arrival of Ronaldo last summer, as well as stellar signings Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane. Maguire has retained the armband, though, despite calls for him to step down as United captain.

And the latest voice to that chorus is that of Bayern Munich star Davies, who cannot believe that Ronaldo is not the skipper at Old Trafford. In a YouTube video, the Canadian was playing FIFA 22 on Twitch when he got Maguire in a pack on Ultimate Team.

The left-back was fuming and it sparked an astonishing rant at the former Leicester star's expense, saying: "Can you guys imagine. Can you guys imagine..." He turned down his music before continuing: "You are Ronaldo… One of the greatest players ever. And what's-his-name is your captain? Harry Maguire is your captain?

"And you refer to him as 'yes cap'. I don't know what he says to him. Bro. I'm not dissing Harry Maguire but Ronaldo… Ronaldo should get the armband man."

Maguire has come under the spotlight intensely this season and he was even booed when he lined up for England against Ivory Coast in an international friendly last week at Wembley. It led to Gareth Southgate was left furious with the home supporters while Wayne Rooney defended the centre-back on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football.

"I like Harry (Maguire). I know him personally," the Derby County boss said. "He hasn't been in his best form this season as a lot of players haven't. He goes and plays for England and looks like a world-class centre-back.

"Again a lot of it is confidence. The players need to feel winning again and winning consistently to get that confidence back. If they do that, I think Harry can be a big part of it."
