Alopecia sufferer Matt Lucas 'doesn't know how to feel' about Will Smith and Chris Rock Oscars drama

Matt Lucas "doesn't know how to feel" about the Chris Rock and Will Smith drama from this year's Oscars.

The Bake Off star has suffered from alopecia for years, like Jada Pinkett Smith.

Jada's husband Will caused controversy ahead of his Best Actor gong for King Richard when he marched on to the Oscars stage and slapped host Chris Rock for his GI Jane jibe about Jada.

In a now deleted tweet, the comic said: "I have alopecia AND I'm a comedian who sometimes gets it wrong. I have no idea what I'm supposed to think about last night."

Before he deleted the post, fans with alopecia flocked to comment.

"I had Alopecia, I had to shave my head. It came at a time of deep stress in my life, as it always does," one user said.

"I wouldn't want people to take the piss but I wouldn't hit them either. You're right I don't know what to think. I totally think I handled it and looked good like you sir."

Another was disappointed by Will and said: "No one said it was funny. The argument is about whether assaulting a comedian on stage for an insensitive joke is justified (it isn't).

"If Will Smith wasn't rich and famous he absolutely would not have gotten away with it."

On Sunday evening, celebrities and viewers at home were left blown away by what was unfolding in front of them.

The moment was more dramatic than many of the films being celebrated on the night, and kicked off when Chris said: "Jada, can't wait for GI Jane 2."

Later on in the evening, Will walked up to the stage and slapped the presenter, before returning to his seat and shouting: "Keep my wife's name out of your f****** mouth."

“Wow, Will Smith just smacked the s**t out of me,” Chris then joked with the audience.

He also said: "That was the greatest night in the history of television."

Last night Fresh Prince star Will issued an apology to Chris Rock, the Academy and the Williams family, whose father Richard provided the inspiration for Will's winning movie, King Richard.

He said: "Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive.

"My behavior at last night's Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes a my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada's medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally."

The Academy had initially stayed tight-lipped about the incident but last night released a statement condemning the Fresh Prince star's actions.

The 9,900-member Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said it 'condemns the actions of Mr. Smith at last night's show.'

"We have officially started a formal review around the incident and will explore further action and consequences in accordance with our Bylaws, Standards of Conduct and California law," the academy added.
