Alnwick's Lucy Bronze scores as England reach Euros final in fine style with 4-0 win over Sweden

England's Lionesses are roaring all the way to Wembley and Lucy Bronze had a big hand in them reaching the Euros final, after scoring the second goal in a superb 4-0 over Sweden on Tuesday night.

While England had home advantage for the crunch semi-final, with the match taking place at Sheffield's Bramall Lane, going into the game Sweden were ranked second in the world. BBC pundits Ian Wright and Alex Scott both admitted it would be a very tough match but, after England had a rather nervy start to the 90 minutes, early jitters were settled when tournament top scorer Beth Mead scored again in the 34th minute.

Prior to kick off, England had only beaten Sweden three times before but former Alnwick schoolgirl and current Barcelona right-back Lucy stretched the Lionesses' lead as she headed in from a corner just after the break. And then England and their fans were sent into dream land when sub Alessia Russo scored a sublime back heeled goal 20 minutes later. The excellent Fran Kirby sealed the 4-0 win in the 76th minute, with the near 29,000 crowd inside Sheffield United's ground giving the side a hearty reaction when the final whistle blew, signalling England's first time in a major final for 13 years.

The full time whistle saw BBC host Gabby Logan liken to atmosphere in the stadium to a 'night club' as anthems like Sweet Caroline and Freed From Desire echoed around the place and Twitter was full of love for the Lionesses, with plenty of tweets from North East football fans directed at Lucy.

After Lucy found the net, one tweeted: "Congrats #LucyBronze great goal from a Northumbrian lass...Berwick/Alnwick...," with another writing: "Well done @Lionesses especially @LucyBronze (as always)."

On the way to the Euros final at Wembley on Sunday, England have yet to concede a single goal, but have scored 20. They will find out who their opponents are after France and Germany battle it out in Wednesday's second semi-final.
