Almost a third of Manchester daters would rather meet in the gym than on a night out

When it comes to nightlife, Manchester has one of the most vibrant scenes in the UK. So it comes as a surprise that almost a third of Mancs would rather meet their future partner while working up a sweat in the gym rather than out on the town.

New research shows that 31% of Mancs would rather attend a fitness class on a first date than hit the pub. The research, conducted by popular dating app Bumble and gym apparel company Gymshark, examined the connection between the Gen-Z dating scene and their love of fitness.

It also revealed that 25% of people in Manchester would rather meet a potential partner at a fitness class than at a festival.

As well as that, over one in 10 Mancs have admitted to attending a fitness class with the intention of meeting a new partner while 18% of people in Manchester say it is important that they share a love of fitness and exercise with the person they are dating.

This comes as Bumble recently identified a trend in ‘Dry Dating’, revealing that the majority of people in the UK (62%) believe they would form a more genuine connection on a date if they avoided alcohol.

Bumble and Gymshark have launched a new partnership to celebrate ‘Dates That Workout’ with six new Bumble fitness badges.

The ‘Dates That Workout’ partnership will include six new fitness-focussed interest badges for Bumble profiles based on top activities from Gymshark customers - with options including weightlifting, HIIT, and bodybuilding.

Data from Bumble’s community reveals that ‘Sports’ is one of the top interest badges added to profiles globally.

Some of the top exercise activities listed on profiles include gym, football, and running, with single people wanting to share what keeps them busy.

The collaboration aims to help single people connect through their love of fitness, leading to more meaningful connections over shared passions and hobbies.

Bumble’s Vice President of Europe, Naomi Walkland, says: “Dating, especially early on, is all about experiences and what better way to connect then share something that you love?

"We've seen that our community is already showcasing this with our sports interest badges being the most popular globally.

"From skiing to pilates, people can show off their favourite hobbies in their profile photos, bios, or by adding an interest badge to their profile and incorporating this into a first date can be an easy way to break the ice when you first meet.”

Gymshark’s Chief Brand Officer, Noel Mack says, "Community is and will continue to be, the most important part of the Gymshark story. We know Bumble gets this, and honestly – we’re big fans of how they think about community too.

"Their female-first approach in a world which is so often the opposite is refreshing and something we aspire to be more like as we continue the Gymshark Women story.

"Our purpose is to ‘Unite the Conditioning Community’ and it’s all about bringing like-minded people together – who better to collaborate with than Bumble to bring people together?"
