A total of 1,883 Covid-19 deaths were recorded in Dublin from March 2020 to February 2022, according to figures released today by the CSO.
Nationwide there were 5,384 cases identified of Covid-19 being the "underlying cause of death", with 91% of these aged 65 and over. 59% of all Covid-19 deaths occurred in general and orthopaedic hospitals, 29% in nursing homes, and 4.8% of deaths occurred in the deceased person's home.
Dublin City was the area that recorded the highest number of Covid-19 deaths at 951, which accounted for 17% of all deaths from the virus in Ireland during that period. There were 278 deaths recorded in Fingal, 264 in Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown and 390 in the South Dublin County Council area.

Across Dublin, 1,705 of the 1,883 total deaths occurred in over 65's. The highest number of reported deaths by LEA outside of Dublin was Cork County at 284.
The CSO said: "The analysis focuses on deaths where Covid-19 was found to have been the underlying cause of death. A death certificate may list multiple causes of death, based on which the UCOD is identified by applying specific guidelines from the World Health Organization."
