Ally McCoist voices 'rubbish' Kilmarnock vs Rangers factor as Ibrox hero rues Scottish Premiership rule

Unimpressed Ally McCoist admits former teams Kilmarnock and Rangers served up a treat despite dealing with a "rubbish" plastic pitch.

The 60-year-old was on commentary for Sky and admits the five-goal thriller was a good advert for Scottish football, however, he is adamant artificial playing surfaces should be banished from Scottish football. How our game is viewed in beyond these shores has been a talking point this week after the Viaplay Cup semi-finals were mired by a heavy Hampden pitch which drew exasperated reactions from Ange Postecoglou, Michael Beale and Jim Goodwin. And now the Ibrox strike legend believes plastic is anything but fantastic.

McCoist, speaking to talkSPORT, he said: "It's rubbish, it's just rubbish. I mean I understand plastic pitches, I get it. But, in my opinion, top flight football is grass and that is it. It's not on for me mate. We had the Livingston one, which is meant to be all weather was called off last night. The all weather track gets called off."

Despite his gripe over the playing surface, McCoist believes it's been a good few days for Scottish football in terms of action. Rangers won again after Alfredo Morelos' double and Ryan Kent's strike were bookended by goals from Chris Stokes and Joe Wright.

He added: "Good game, it was very good game, I think I said to you, Al, I worked the two semi finals at the weekend, Kilmarnock vs Celtic and Rangers vs Aberdeen. They were great games, they really were. And so was last night. It was an excellent game."
