Ally McCoist helped a contestant on game show The Wheel make history by landing a whopping £82,000. The Rangers and Scotland legend appeared as one of the celebrities on Michael McIntyre’s popular Saturday night TV hit.
Edinburgh oncology nurse Helen had to answer just one question to bank the huge windfall and it was McCoist who she turned to as she landed the prize amid emotional scenes as she was reduced to tears. McCoist was the episode’s lowest scorer but he helped her strike gold despite a tricky question on 'Lost Civilizations’ as the pair had to answer where the Troy is in the modern world. Helen was veering towards Iraq but she went with McCoist who correctly answered Turkey.
She burst into tears and hugged McCoist, explaining: “Unfortunately we lost my grandma last year and because it was Covid, we couldn't have the proper send off she deserved. I've got family in Canada that I have not seen since she passed away so I would love to take my Mum over to Canada. It's been such a tough couple of years as my sister is a doctor as well. Working through Covid, the pair of us, and then not being able to see parents and losing my Gran, to be able to finally have a break and celebrate my Gran- Thank you so much.”
BAFTA-award winning host McIntyre explained she was the first person ever to answer one question and win.
