Former Scotland striker Ally McCoist is not happy with Manchester United holding Jesse Lingard and Newcastle United to ransom over loan deal.
Newcastle United have been trying to agree a deal that would bring the 29-year-old England midfielder to St James’ Park on a loan until the end of the season.
However, despite the player reportedly wanting to sign for the Magpies, the deal is at risk because Manchester United want too large a lump sum if Lingard was to help Newcastle survive.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Ally McCoist said: “The fact of the matter is if Manchester United are taking advantage of the fact that Newcastle’s owners have got plenty of dough, I’m not happy with it, because they should have got the same deal as when Lingard went to West Ham.”
Lingard, who has been struggling to get in the team at Manchester United, spent the end of last season at West Ham on loan where he showed how much of a threat he still is, racking up assists and goals, before returning to his parent club.
McCoist continued: “If they got £12m off West Ham last year for the same deal, okay, fair enough, but if they’re just trying to take advantage of Newcastle and it’s affecting the boy I’m not happy.
“I just want to see Jesse Lingard play man.”
Lingard has under six months left on his contract. The transfer window closes on Monday.
