Ally McCoist slams ‘ridiculous’ Rangers offside goal decision

Ally McCoist has branded the decision to rule out a third goal for Rangers against Fenerbahce as "ridiculous".

The co-commentator was not impressed as VAR overruled the on-field decision to wipe out Cyriel Dessers' strike in the second half.

The striker scored the first of the night for Rangers before the scores were levelled by Alexander Dijiku on the half-hour mark.

Vaclav Cerny sent Rangers in a goal to the good at the break as he slotted home to take a 2-1 lead into the half-time interval.

Dessers looked to have made it 3-1 to Rangers shortly after the restart as he blasted home after a Nico Raskin shot could only be parried out into the box.

But, after a short delay, the goal was ruled out with a free-kick awarded to Fenerbahce as Dessers was adjudged to have been offside before applying the finish.

The referee did not have to review the incident with offside decisions deemed factual calls and VAR having the authority to decide without referee input.

Rangers hero McCoist wasn't convinced, though, as he admitted his surprise over the decision as a still was shown of the offside call with lines drawn by VAR.

"That's ridiculous that," said McCoist.

"Have they given that offside for his left arm? They might be."

Dessers had the ball in the net again moments later as he looked to have given Rangers a two-goal cushion.

However, once more, Dessers was ruled to be offside by VAR officials with replays showing an incredibly tight call.
