Ally McCoist says Rangers still in title race with Celtic but delivers 'it's not good' verdict

Ally McCoist insists Rangers are still in the race for the Premiership title with Celtic - but says it's not looking good.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst and his troops trail the Hoops at the top of the table by seven points after just 14 games after a poor run of performances and results. The Light Blues dropped home points to Livingston before suffering defeat at St Johnstone in recent weeks. The form sparked anger from the travelling support who confronted skipper James Tavernier in Perth in the aftermath of the 2-1 loss.

The Ibrox boss is under huge scrutiny but got back to winning ways last night with a narrow win over Hearts thanks to Malik Tillman's second-half winner. Ange Postecoglou's champions also picked up three points with a 2-1 success at Motherwell to maintain the healthy gap with one fixture each to play before the World Cup shutdown.

Celtic-daft talkSPORT host Alan Brazil put his good pal McCoist on the spot when he asked him if the race for the league crown was done while live on air.

He said: "Is the Scottish Premiership over?"

McCoist, after a long pause, said: "No"

Brazil then came back at him with: "I can tell on your face, you're nodding saying no, you can't kid everyone. You're nodding your head and saying no."

McCoist added: "No, it's not. We'll need to see how it goes after the break...but it's not good."

Celtic face Ross County at Parkhead this weekend while Rangers make the trip to Paisley to face St Mirren.
