Ally McCoist has revealed how former Rangers cult hero Terry Hurlock once caught a BUS to avoid completing a gruelling pre-season run in the searing heat.
The former hardman midfielder was signed from Millwall by Graeme Souness in 1990 and spent a season at Ibrox where he won the League Cup and the Scottish league title. Hurlock had a fearsome reputation after his three years at the Den and returned to England after his short stint in Scotland when he moved to Southampton.
Rangers fans took to Hurlock thanks to his no-nonsense style and team-mate McCoist was in hysterics as he recalled how crafty cockney came up with a way of escaping a punishing summer run shortly after arriving. Souness introduced the Light Blues to the Il Ciocco training complex in Italy which he had used during his days with Sampdoria in Serie A before moving to Ibrox.
And during a discussion about pre-season regimes on talkSPORT radio, McCoist said: “We went on a six mile run one time and I remember looking to my right hand side and I saw Terry Hurlock jumping on the bus. He jumped on a bus and went six stops and got off. Wee Tel. Unbelievable.”
