Ally McCoist makes Rangers interview claim about John Eustace

Ally McCoist has claimed that sacked Birmingham City boss John Eustace will get an interview for the vacant job at Ibrox.

The inexperienced manager has the Blues flying high in the Championship after the opening few months of the campaign.

However, yesterday he was relieved of his duties by the club's new American ownership. The club sits in sixth place.

There have been strong suggestions that Manchester United and England legend Wayne Rooney will be brought in as his replacement following his departure from DC United in the MLS.

Eustace almost immediately emerged as the new bookies' favourite for the gig in Glasgow after the news of his dismissal at St Andrews.

Philippe Clement and Kevin Muscat appear to be the main contenders for the job.

But McCoist believes Eustace should be looked at by James Bisgrove and John Bennett before concluding their recruitment process.

Speaking on the talkSPORT Breakfast Show, McCoist was asked about Eustace landing the Rangers job.

He said: "Yeah, I think he is in the running. I think he will get an interview."

He added: "I didn't realise Graeme Souness was involved in the interviews."

He was then cut off to ask about Lampard - who McCoist had previously backed as a potential next boss at his former club.

McCoist responded: "I don't know. I promise you that I don't."

Meanwhile, a leading candidate for the vacant Rangers job has reportedly emerged.

Philippe Clement is said to be the top target for the Ibrox hierarchy after the latest round of interviews.

The Scottish Sun claims that 49-year-old is now the frontrunner to replace Michael Beale, who was sacked last week.

The Belgian, who has been out of work since leaving Monaco in the summer, is believed to have seriously impressed Bisgrove and Bennett during discussions.

Former Rangers defender Kevin Muscat also remains in the running following his interview.
