Ally McCoist in Michael Beale 'bigger fights' warning as Chris Sutton spat only the start

Ally McCoist is urging Michael Beale to 'strap himself in' for far bigger fights than his spat with Chris Sutton.

The feud between the Rangers boss and the Celtic hero has raged on this week when Beale branded the pundit a 'comedy act' after being quizzed on whether or not he would have shown the same sportsmanship he did to Partick Thistle against the Hoops. Sutton responded by harking back to the now-infamous Pedro Caixinha 'dogs are barking' analogy used by the under-fire Gers boss in 2017.

And Ibrox hero McCoist, who is often himself jousting with Sutton on BT Sport Score, believes Beale must pick his battles better because he will face tougher confrontations in the hot-seat in Glasgow than Sutton.

He told BT Sport: "We are duty bound to give opinions on Scottish football, which I think we both do honestly. We are only here to do a job and we will continue to do a job.

"I have been in the other side and there are one or two things people have said that has perhaps riled me when I have been a manager, but I think the object is just to get on with the job. I’m sure Michael Beale will continue to do a good job.

“I can assure Michael that he will have bigger fights along the way than Chris Sutton. I can absolutely assure him. So (he better) get himself strapped in for those."
