Rangers icon Ally McCoist is convinced Manchester City will be landing a transfer gem in Kieran Tierney IF Pep Guardiola firms up his long-running interest in the Scotland international.
The Arsenal star would likely command a £50million transfer fee as he works his way back from a knee injury that ruled him out of the end of last season for club and country. McCoist quipped any potential move for the Celtic hero could be well be part of Manchester City getting something in return after selling Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko to the Gunners.
And doubts have been cast over Tierney's long-term future in North London with the Ukraine skipper instantly impressing in Tierney's left-back role during convincing wins over Leicester and Crystal Palace. Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist said: "I don't think it would be the worst move in the world for City, if I'm telling you the truth."
Before Laura Woods raised Tierney's recent injury history as a potential caveat to any deal to take him to Emirates. He added: "Oh, there's a point, it would be very difficult for anybody to say a move to City is not going to be a good move, however, he has had his injury problems, there's no doubt about that. He is a top player, do you think they will let him go?"
And Woods launched an impassioned verdict on the man who left boyhood club Celtic for Arsenal in 2018, she said: "He would be a massive loss for us, I'd do everything to keep hold of him. I hope not (letting Tierney leave). I can't see it, unless it is an obscene amount of money, Arsenal need to keep him, it's not just what he does on the pitch, he's an absolute leader and someone you want to keep around. I think he loves the club as well, I do, I don't know for a fact but I would assume it."
McCoist wholeheartedly agreed and admits the success of Tierney and Scotland compatriot Andy Robertson with Liverpool has been something he has cherished in recent years. He said: "He's one of the players that supporters can react to, you can see the passion in his play, I used to say about him and Andy Robertson are the two boys who pinch themselves every morning when they get up because they have the best job in the world and love what they do. I just think that is fantastic to see. Supporters love that."
And then the Rangers favourite admitted a move for Tierney could be part of a greater plan with City, he chimed. "Exactly, we want one back, you can have those two but we want one back."
