Former Scotland striker Ally McCoist couldn't resist a cheeky reminder to England fans over their slump in form - with Steve Clarke's side sitting top of their Nations League group.
England suffered the relegation to the second tier of the Nations League on Friday after slumping to a 1-0 defeat against Italy, that left Gareth Southgate's men on a five game winless run with just one game to go until the World Cup. In contrast, the Tartan Army have roared Scotland on to back-to-back victories over Ukraine and Ireland with Clarke's men one point away from topping Group B1 and sealing promotion to the top tier.
Southgate faces one final chance to get the England fans back on side on Monday against Germany with the Three Lions yet to score a goal from open play in the competition - a record only matched by minnows San Marino. Rangers legend McCoist was all too happy to point out the contrasting fortunes between the two nations ahead of Scotland's massive clash with Ukraine on Tuesday.
McCoist gave a run down of his thoughts from the win over Ireland to the talkSPORT Breakfast Show, stating: "They were a lot better second half. First half, Ireland were probably the better team when they went ahead with Egan's goal. We came out second half and Scotland were a lot better.
"A good header (to equalise), and Jack Hendry has been very good the last two games. I thought he was excellent against Ukraine as well.
"Then Ireland had a chance to score but Craig Gordon saved, and then we got a penalty. I heard Stephen Kenny and the guys talking about it after the game, but I actually thought it was a penalty in the modern day.
"You would be moaning about it if you lost if, but it certainly does hit his arm. Then Ryan Christie tucked it away.
"It gives Scotland a good opportunity of winning that group again, if they can just get a point against Ukraine on Tuesday. It was certainly a better few days for Steve Clarke than it was for Gareth Southgate again."
