Overjoyed Ally McCoist joked Rangers' Europa League glory night led to him waking up in a panic - because he fears a date with Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup might be a step too far.
The Ibrox side are off to the Europa League Final after a thrilling and emotionally-charged victory over RB Leipzig in Glasgow on Thursday night.
They will play Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville on May 18 for the right to lift the trophy.
The Europa League victors then traditionally face off against the Champions League winners at the start of next season with Jurgen Klopp's team favourites to beat Real Madrid.
And McCoist, who freely admitted he's getting carried away, couldn't help but think of what could lie ahead.
He said on talkSPORT: "I'll tell you, it's been a great night but I've woken up this morning panicking.
"And I'll tell you why - I think Liverpool in the Super Cup might be a step too far for us!"
McCoist was on BT Sport duty but still managed to join the post-match party from the punditry gantry, dancing along with the Rangers players during their lap of honour.
And the Ibrox legend reckons the atmosphere inside the old stadium was "off the scale".
"Lads, incredible. Absolutely incredible, I've got to say," McCoist said. "I thought I was getting carried away last night but I'm not, I'm still getting carried away this morning.
"It was one of those unbelievable nights that European football can throw up sometimes. You think about it, quite literally nine years ago Rangers were lifting the Third Division championship against Berwick Rangers.
"Nine years on, you're in a European Final in Seville against Frankfurt.
"I'm stunned and so happy for everybody. The atmosphere last night was just ridiculous, it was off the scale."
The sudden passing of beloved kit man Jimmy Bell earlier this week plunged Rangers into mourning and added extra emotional significance to an already momentous occasion.
A minutes' silence remembered Bell pre-match, Glen Kamara held up and kissed his black armband after scoring and fans unfurled a banner in his honour during the second-half.
And McCoist insists the club did their late hero "absolutely proud".
He added: "It was amazing, some things are just meant to be.
"Obviously, Jimmy Bell's family were devastated for him but he was at that place for 30 years. I was there as a player when he first came in as the bus driver.
"And then when Graeme Souness came in he became the kit man.
"These guys round about the club are absolutely priceless whether it's the tea ladies or the kit man.
"He just dropped down tragically and passed. It was so sad and so tragic for all the players and more so for the family.
"But last night they did him proud, absolutely proud. There was a lovely tribute to him before the game and even during the game they unfurled a big banner with Jimmy Bell's name on it.
"It was one of those nights, man."
