Ally McCoist demands Rangers board issues ultimate Michael Beale show of faith to back up Ibrox boss 'gamble'

Ally McCoist has urged the Rangers board to back manager Michael Beale to bring silverware back to Ibrox after failing to win a trophy since stepping into the hot seat.

The former Rangers striker and manger is also "concerned" about the running down of contracts in Govan with striker Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Ryan Jack, Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor, Steve Davis and Filip Helander all set to leave in the summer. Morelos and Kent have been linked with a number of moves away during their time in Glasgow but Rangers are now likely to miss out on transfer fees for them.

Ange Postecoglou's Celtic are on course for the Treble this season after defeating Rangers in the Viaplay Cup final at Hampden. A win on Sunday against Hearts and the Hoops would retain their league trophy with a Scottish Cup final against Inverness Caley Thistle to come in June. Despite the poor season for Rangers, McCoist believes Beale can turn things round and deliver trophies - if he gets the support.

McCoist, speaking to BoyleSports about Rangers vs Celtic, said: "Rangers can (win trophies under Michael Beale). The board made the decision to hire Michael and one thing that needs to be done now is for us Rangers supporters to rally around the team and give them support.

"The time is now for Rangers to start winning things again, domestically. It's important that Michael gets support from the board too and I'm sure he will. There are some exciting times ahead.

"Hiring any manager is a gamble. I was surprised that Rangers hired Michael as I thought they'd prefer someone with more experience but when you actually think about it, they've hired someone that knows the club, has been there and knows what's required of him.

"The one thing he needs to get; is support from the board - it's vital. The next two or three months are vital for Beale and his tenure."

With a host of players set to leave Ibrox, McCoist also raised concerns that the duo were leaving Glasgow for nothing. He added: "Obviously, Morelos’ injury hasn't helped but he hasn't reached the level required since the setback so he needs to regain a little bit of form if he wants to secure a move at the same level as Rangers are at.

"Ryan Kent, on the other hand, was exceptional during the European run, some of his performances were amazing but his consistency levels have dropped and if he wants to move on to another club then he has to perform better.

"I'm a little concerned that their contracts have been allowed to run down and as I said, the next couple of months are going to be vital."
