Pundit Ally McCoist has called Nottingham Forest securing Premier League safety ‘remarkable’ and outlined the role that the City Ground fans had in making it happen.
Steve Cooper ’s side will be playing Premier League football again next season after a 1-0 win over second-placed Arsenal on Saturday evening. Everton’s draw with Wolves just hours earlier meant that Forest went into the game knowing that a win would be enough to keep them safe from relegation.
Taiwo Awoniyi’s 19th minute goal proved to be the difference between the two sides, with the win also celebrated in the blue side of Manchester as it meant that Arsenal couldn’t catch Man City in the title race.

Forest’s survival can be put down to their home form with the team picking up victories over Liverpool, Brighton and Arsenal at the City Ground, as well as earning a point against champions Man City.
And it was the atmosphere in the stands at the City Ground that earned praise from McCoist, with the supporters helping to push their team to safety throughout the season.
“The Forest story is remarkable, I don’t care what anyone says…” he said on TalkSPORT.
“I think there was an awful lot of people who thought Forest would go down and the home form in particular, has been fabulous. What I loved about it as well, talking about their home form, is the atmosphere, the atmosphere within the ground.
“(It is) different class, I haven’t been there this year, but I was lucky enough to go there last year on a couple of occasions. It’s excellent, and I think that also played a big part in them staying up this season.”
The clash against Arsenal was Forest’s final home game of the 2022/23 season, with the team facing a trip to Crystal Palace next Sunday. But they now know that Premier League football will return to the City Ground in August.
