Ally McCoist has admitted he is "concerned" that Rangers have allowed contract rebels Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent to run down their deals at Ibrox.
The pair have been at the heart of the Light Blues squad over the past few years but now their futures are destined to lie elsewhere with chairman Douglas Park hinting that the demands made by the duo are "unattainable". And McCoist acknowledges Mick Beale’s side are unlikely to recoup a sizeable transfer fee for Morelos due to his recent poor form. Kent has failed to build on his performances during Rangers ' run to the Europa League Final, with consistency cited as a stumbling block in the winger gaining a move to a top club.
"On recent form, Alfredo Morelos won't get a move at the same level he could've been at 18 months ago," McCoist told Grosvenor Sport. "Obviously, his injury hasn't helped but he hasn't reached the level required since the setback so he needs to regain a little bit of form if he wants to secure a move at the same level as Rangers are at.
“Ryan Kent, on the other hand, was exceptional during the European run, some of his performances were amazing but his consistency levels have dropped and if he wants to move on to another club then he has to perform better. I'm a little concerned that their contracts have been allowed to run down and as I said, the next couple of months are going to be vital."
McCoist also claims he was surprised by the appointment of former QPR boss Beale but knows any managerial appointment can be deemed a gamble, which means it’s vital the Rangers board give him the support he needs in their attempt to prevent Celtic from running away with the Scottish Premiership title.
He added: "Hiring any manager is a gamble. I was surprised that Rangers hired Michael as I thought they'd prefer someone with more experience but when you actually think about it, they've hired someone that knows the club, has been there and knows what's required of him. The one thing he needs to get; is support from the board - it's vital. The next two or three months are vital for Beale and his tenure."
