Ally McCoist blasts 'nonsense' Rangers transfer claim as he names 4 things they need BEFORE new sporting director

Ally McCoist has told Rangers they should focus on giving Michael Beale a squad to work with before worrying about replacing Ross Wilson.

The Ibrox side are without a sporting director after Wilson left for Nottingham Forest and the timing is hardly ideal with Beale admitting a squad revamp is imminent. Wilson's departure means Beale will have to take on more responsibilities in the meantime and McCoist sees no problem with that.

He thinks his old side should be focused more on filling the gaps in his squad for next season before looking to replace Wilson. He said on BT Sport's Scottish Football Extra: “Do you know something? They need a goalkeeper, a centre half, a left-back and a centre forward more than they need a director of football. That’s what they need.

“Your argument would be that the director of football would pick that, right? Call me old fashioned, I want the manager and his staff to have the final say on the players. Because if they’re going to be judged on results the manager must be able to pick his own players.”

And he went on: “Surely if you’re the manager or number one coach, you want the responsibility to land at your door. You don’t want to say, ‘well we got beat 2-1 but what about that left back we’ve got, I didn’t even sign him.’ That’s nonsense. You have to be responsible for your own decisions.”
