Ally McCoist bites back at Celtic 'guard of honour' troll from Alan Brazil as Rangers hero turns derby historian

Grinning Ally McCoist has swerved a goading dig from Celtic diehard Alan Brazil over the prospect of Rangers giving the newly-crowned Scottish champions a guard of honour.

Ange Postecoglou's side travel to Ibrox in their first clash since claiming their second consecutive Scottish Premiership title under the Australian, with the Light Blues having the first chance to applaud the champions on to the park. However, the tradition has been scrapped when the Glasgow rivals face off in recent seasons.

In 2019, Neil Lennon's side had secured their eighth title in a row ahead of facing Steven Gerrard's Rangers at Ibrox. The Light Blues, with current boss Michael Beale as a coach, opted against the guard of honour. The favour was returned after Celtic's bid for 10 consecutive league titles was brought to an abrupt end when John Kennedy was leading the side on an interim basis at Celtic Park.

However, that didn't stop Brazil calling for the gesture to be brought back on Saturday. However, McCoist was quick to point to the history books. Speaking on the talkSPORT Breakfast Show, Brazil posed the question should Rangers give their rivals a guard of honour at Ibrox. A laughing McCoist responded: 'What do you think?"

Brazil didn't miss his chance stating: "I think it would be a great token. I do, I think it would be...."

McCoist refused to let the Celtic fan go on, cutting in: "You know it's not happening, I know it's not happening. Move on to the next question."

Brazil responded: "Come on. You're a spoil sport." McCoist: "I think it was really poor of your lot not to give us a guard of honour in 2021 when we stopped it (10 in a Row)."
