Ally McCoist backs Celtic VAR fury as he shuts Kris Boyd down over 'scandalous' penalty

Rangers icon Ally McCoist believes the call to award a penalty for handball against Celtic defender Alexandro Bernabei is the latest "scandalous" VAR decision to hit Scottish football.

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou didn't hold back over his fears over video technology and the length of time it takes for a final decision to be reached between the match official and the control room analysing the big calls. Dundee United were awarded a spot kick after Steven Fletcher's header was adjudged a spot kick for handball against Bernabei. McCoist wasn't having it but fellow pundit Kris Boyd reckons it was the right call from VAR after liaising with referee David Dickinson.

Boyd, speaking on Sky Sports, said: "It did Joe Hart a favour, it gave him an opportunity to save because it was going into the back of the net. All day long, he (Bernabei) saved it, he saved it. It was going into the back of the net." But McCoist interjected and strongly disagreed with his fellow Ibrox hero. He said: "Can I bring a bit of sanity into this? If we're given penalties for that then the game is gone. Some of the decisions we've seen for handballs, north and south of the border, are absolutely scandalous."
