Ally McCoist apologises to Rangers support over Ibrox tribute snub

Ally McCoist has apologised to Rangers supporters after he inadvertently snubbed an Ibrox tribute.

The Rangers hero received an OBE last week and was then hailed by his former club during the match against Lyon.

McCoist, 62, was on commentary duty for the Europa League tie and completely missed a video tribute played on the big screen at Ibrox.

To make matters worse, the Ibrox legend then discovered he was caught on camera blissfully unaware he was being saluted by supporters and the club.

On talkSPORT, McCoist admitted: "I went to the Rangers game on Thursday night and they very kindly did a thing on the screen for me.

"I need to apologise because I had my headphones on and I didn't know it was on.

"The camera went on me and it looks like I'm being really rude. It looks like I'm ignoring everybody!

"It's as if this OBE has gone straight to by head. But I had my headphones on and had someone talking to me in the studio so I didn't know.

"if anybody is listening then I apologise because it was a very thoughtful gesture."

McCoist - who received his OBE for services to football and broadcasting - was gifted a special Rangers shirt ahead of the match by interim chairman John Gilligan.

On being presented with his OBE by Prince William, McCoist said: "Such a proud moment for myself and my family, I am humbled to be receiving my OBE from Prince William at Windsor Castle today.

"Thank you for all the support and messages it means so much.

"Did we speak about @AVFCOfficial ?? That’s between the Prince and I."
