Retired Trump Organization executive Allen Weisselberg has been released from New York City's Rikers Island jail after serving a sentence for lying under oath, as per online records. Weisselberg, the former chief financial officer at Donald Trump’s real estate company, pleaded guilty to committing perjury during his testimony in a fraud lawsuit brought by New York’s attorney general against the former president.
Weisselberg confessed to lying about the overvaluation of Trump’s Manhattan penthouse on his financial statements. In exchange for pleading guilty to two counts of perjury, prosecutors agreed not to pursue charges against him for any other potential crimes related to his long tenure at the Trump Organization.
His attorney, Seth Rosenberg, stated that Weisselberg has taken responsibility for his actions and is eager to put this life-altering experience behind him, looking forward to reuniting with his family and enjoying his retirement.
This was not Weisselberg’s first time in jail. Last year, the 76-year-old served a 100-day sentence for tax evasion on $1.7 million in company benefits, including a rent-free Manhattan apartment and luxury vehicles.
Weisselberg, who worked for the Trump family for nearly five decades, testified twice during trials that did not end favorably for Trump. Despite this, he consistently maintained that his employer had not engaged in any significant wrongdoing.
Neither Weisselberg's lawyer nor representatives from the city's Department of Correction responded to requests for comments via phone or email.
