Oscar Allen's clutch kick with 18 seconds left has secured West Coast a thrilling five-point win over North Melbourne, further boosting interim coach Jarrad Schofield's stocks.
The Eagles scored the final four goals at Blundstone Arena in Hobart on Saturday to overcome the Kangaroos, who were up by 35 points in the third term.
Allen slotted five goals in the 15.12 (102) to 14.13 (97) result - the most crucial coming at the very death.
West Coast veteran Andrew Gaff marked just inside 50m with about 30 seconds left - Allen picked up the scraps from his ensuing kick, snapping the winner.
It was 16th-placed West Coast's fifth victory this year and second in a row after beating the Suns in a come-from-behind effort last round.
"The heart was racing a bit but you live for those moments … that's why you coach," Schofield said.
The 49-year-old, who has lifted the Eagles' intensity since taking over from Adam Simpson, hasn't officially declared his interest in the fulltime head coaching gig.
"What I've said all along is I'm in a position (where) I get an opportunity to help the team be better," he said.
"I'm enjoying what I'm doing … it's the reward the players are getting from their hard work."
North Melbourne appeared to have the game locked up when Paul Curtis put his side ahead 96-77 in the 23rd minute of the last term.
But goals to Elliot Yeo and Allen got West Coast right back in the mix, before Jamie Cripps kicked a major with about one minute left.
The Kangaroos remain just one win above last-placed Richmond, who play St Kilda on Sunday.
Jeremy McGovern (25 disposals) was huge in defence for the Eagles, while Tristan Xerri (33 hit-outs) and Harry Sheezel were among several Kangaroos who had strong games.
Sheezel played much of the match with a limp after copping a knock to his lower leg in the second quarter.
"We're just disappointed because we had plenty of chances to win that game," North Melbourne coach Alastair Clarkson said.
"Sometimes you need to go through these harsh lessons as a side.
"West Coast got too many easy goals (when) we had opportunities to kill the ball."
The Eagles started the match strongly, picking up the first two goals before the Kangaroos came to life late in the quarter.
Youngster Eddie Ford snapped a goal from a tight angle in heavy traffic before Toby Pink put his side ahead 26-21 at the first break.
West Coast failed to kick a goal in a scrappy second quarter in which a spectacular flying grab from Harley Reid was a rare highlight.
Reid found himself in multiple scraps in a first half with tempers flaring several times.
North Melbourne's Tom Powell helped his side get ahead 48-26 at the main break with back-to-back goals.
The Kangaroos threatened to pull away after opening up a 35-point lead before West Coast surged with four straight majors in the third quarter.
