Allan Saint-Maximin's Wolves wonder strike 'no surprise' for Joe Willock

Joe Willock has heaped praise on Newcastle United team-mate Allan Saint-Maximin after his wonder strike against Wolves. The French forward scored an outrageous volley in the 90th minute to ensure the Magpies' unbeaten start to the season continued.

It was a goal of the highest calibre from the 25-year-old, but Willock felt his side were deserving of more than just a point. "It was a brilliant goal from Allan Saint-Maximin and I feel like we should have taken all three points at the end," Willock told NUFC.

The draw at Molineux means the Magpies are unbeaten in all competitions, picking up where they left off last season. The Toon are in the final European place after just four games played, but face a tough test away at Liverpool tonight.

Eddie Howe's side could be without Saint-Maximin for the trip to Anfield, a major blow for Newcastle based on his current form. The Frenchman was one of the standout performers against Manchester City and has proven he can be a danger against the top sides in the division.

Consistency has been his main downfall since arriving at St. James' Park, but Willock wasn't surprised to see his team-mate produce a goal of that calibre last weekend. He said: "To be honest with you I wasn't surprised you know, he's a character, a player that's not always understood by everyone. But, undoubtedly talented with things he can do on the ball that no one else can do.

"Things that take you by surprise and on the weekend, that was one of those things where loads of people were surprised that he could take it out of the air and put it in the bottom corner. That's just Allan.

"He's a really talented player and a lovely guy."
