Allan Saint-Maximin "not for sale" as Eddie Howe issues deadline day warning on Newcastle star

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has insisted that Allan Saint-Maximin is "not for sale" in the last throes of the January window.

The French winger has been a target of both AC Milan and Nottingham Forest, but Howe says he has no interest in selling the ex-Nice star. And Howe also filmed up that West Ham full-back Harrison Ashby is heading north to finalise a deal to leave the London Stadium and become a Toon player.

When asked about Saint-Maximin's situation, with Milan monitoring the star, Howe was asked if he could leave and said: "Absolutely not. He is here to stay, and is an integral part of my team."

Howe will be saying goodbye to Karl Darlow, albeit on a temporary basis - to Hull City on loan - but only after he has appeared as sub in the League Cup semi-final against Southampton.

Howe said: "The situation is that he will be involved with us tomorrow. Then we will see where we stand on things after that.

"Martin is cup-tied in this competition, then we have Lorius, who is continuing to train well. "That’s the situation – we wanted Karl for this game, then we’ll make a decision after that."

Howe was asked about Ashby and said the deal was "to be concluded" as Newcastle look to offer cover at right-back.
