Allan Saint-Maximin injury 'worry', Guimaraes update & 'huge' Emil Krafth blow for Newcastle United

Newcastle United have been dealt a fresh injury blow after Allan Saint-Maximin sustained a hamstring injury at Wolves.

The French winger - who scored a wonderful equaliser and has been in sparkling early season form - pulled up after sprinting back to defend the goal that was chalked off for Wanderers after Ryan Fraser was fouled. But Howe does not see it as a serious problem - even if he is a doubt for the clash at Anfield.

Howe said: "Maxi is a worry for us at the moment with a hamstring. It was late in the game off the back of a sprint to try and save a goal."

United also have slight concerns on Kieran Trippier after he picked up a slight knock, but Howe said: "Kieran Trippier should be fine."

Bruno Guimaraes missed the game at Molineux but Howe explained why in more depth on Tuesday morning. He said: "He's doing well. I don't know about this game but hopefully not far after if he doesn't make it.

"He's very positive, in good spirits and he's desperate to get back. He's a big player for us so we need to get him back as quickly as possible."

But there was more gut wrenching news for Emil Krafth - who could miss the whole season after a knee injury at Tranmere. Krafth only just penned a new contract back in July during the club's sunshine trip to Portugal when the deal was celebrated within the squad.

Howe said: "It's an ACL injury. He's not been operated on yet so it's difficult to give a firm date but it's going to be six to nine months.

"A long time out which is a huge blow to us."
