Allan Saint-Maximin has confessed to holding a special place in his heart for former Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce. The winger was one of the only players to commemorate the unpopular boss following his departure in October.
In an emotional post, Saint-Maximin called Bruce ‘caring’ and a ‘man of his word’ due to him taking the Frenchman under his wing. It was the ex-Toon boss who brought the maverick to Tyneside - on head of recruitment Steve Nickson’s recommendation - from Nice in 2019.
Now, Saint-Maximin has admitted he will always admire his old mentor and opened up about what it is like to work under Eddie Howe. “Steve Bruce will always stay in my heart because he was a manager I really, really love,” he told Soccer AM. “But Eddie Howe has found a way to help me and to be close to me.

“A relationship is always like that. Trust takes time, but I am starting to learn to love this manager, the philosophy of his. We spend a lot of time together and he is close with every single player. I think this is really important and makes a big, big change.”
Saint-Maximin also spoke about how everyone at the club is working in unison to achieve the best possible end to the campaign. He added: “We have a great manager and great owner. We all want the same things, the best things for Newcastle and we want to stay in the league. We just need to keep going and if we keep winning games we know we're going to be safe for sure.”
