Alan Hutton says former teammate Allan McGregor is desperate to prove a point and take back his title as undisputed Rangers number one.
The 40-year-old looked to be saying farewell to a club he has enjoyed much success at over two stints when he was subbed on in the final moments of May's Scottish Cup final win versus Hearts. He shocked many when penning an extension to his Ibrox contract the next month but Jon McLaughlin has started between the sticks so far this term in games against Livingston and Union-Saint Gilloise.
Hutton was right-back during McGregor's first stint at Rangers and knows how he will be feeling about the former Sunderland stopper seemingly rising from deputy to top dog, despite boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst refusing to say so categorically. Speaking on Premier Sports, he believes McLaughlin now has a major challenge to keep hold of the gloves he's earned.

McGregor is a worthy challenger and Hutton said: "When you look at the first game of the season and he picks his first team, that shouts to me number one.
"Going into the big European night, McLaughlin is between the sticks, but they are big gloves to fill with Allan McGregor sitting on the bench. He'll be devastated and you can't get over that fact.
"He is a guy who has played at a high level over a sustained period. He's come to Rangers' rescue time and time again so he'll take this to heart. But he will get on with it and try to prove everyone wrong."
