Allan McGregor breaks silence over Rangers future amid retirement talk

Allan McGregor insists he will play the wait game over making a decision about his Rangers future.

There has been increased speculation that the goalkeeper would hang up his boots this summer.

The 41-year-old's contract at Ibrox expires at the end of the season.

The former Scotland No.1 was in the exact same situation last year.

He was subbed on for what looked to be an emotional swansong in the Scottish Cup final against Hearts.

However, a matter of weeks later McGregor put pen to paper on a fresh one-year deal.

Michael Beale has been asked several times about the experienced keeper's future.

He insists McGregor remains his No.1 despite chopping and changing with Jon McLaughlin.

The manager has expressed his desire to draft in some new goalkeepers for next season.

And McGregor has remained coy over his future beyond this campaign.

He told Sky Sports: "I don't know, I just take it game by game. I think at this age you need to.

"I'm not really looking that far ahead. I didn't do it last season and I'm not going to do it this season. I'm just going to take it game by game and see what happens in the summer."

With Craig Gordon out of action through injury and David Marshall now retired from international duty, McGregor was then asked whether an unexpected return to the Scotland setup was on the cards.

He added: "I wouldn't have thought so, no. Nobody has spoken to me about it and I've not really thought about it. I'd find it highly unlikely.

"Would I rule it out? I think I've got my holidays booked for that week to be honest with you."
