Allan McGregor and the Rangers breakfast he arrived at dressed as a Smurf after Tenerife night out

Steven Gerrard wasn't a fan of nights out when he was Rangers manager - but Allan McGregor's Spanish arrival the morning after the night before left him in stiches.

The Light Blues goalkeeper is still their number one at 40 and former teammate Andy Halliday has revealed a time where he ended up at a morning meeting in Spain dressed as one of The Smurfs. Picking up the perception as an intense player on the field, his off the field antics left his former boss in a fit of laughter.

After a team night out where most behaved sensibly, the Liverpool legend demanded everyone be at breakfast on time or more training for his Rangers peers was on the cards. Just as he prepared to dish out the punishment, McGregor strolled in with a noticeable difference. When asked about team fancy dresses, Halliday replied on Open Goal: "We had a team night out in Tenerife.

"Big Greegsy dressed up as a Smurf. You would think that Gerrard loved a drink with the boys but he hated when the boys went out and there was always a curfew.

"So ours was about midnight and everyone had to make sure they were at breakfast for 9am the next morning you are training. We weren't supposed to be training the next day.

"So we went out and fair play to everyone, they got back in time. 9am and everyone's there expect Greegsy. We're thinking we're training!

"Gerrard then said if we didn't get him before 9:15 we were training. 9:14, Greegsy walks in with a full Smurf outfit, blue face paint. Gerrard burst out laughing!"
